About this addon
The Quasar is a fictional aircraft. Lord Frites came up with the idea in December 2023, and it began to take shape in his mind. Two years later, here is a finished aircraft that flies exceptionally well in Flight Simulator 2020 and 2024. The Quasar pushes the boundaries of these simulated worlds to their limits and brings unique gameplay mechanisms.
Here are some numbers:
- Max rated altitude: 10M feet (FS2024) - 275k feet (FS2020)
- Cruising altitude: 130,000 feet
- Cruise speed: Mach 7.8
- Range: unlimited
- Endurance: unlimited
The Flying Fries team is extremely proud of this aircraft, our most ambitious and complex project to date. Fly to the edge of space, reach Mach 7.8 (approximately 5,000 knots ground speed), and manage your fuel burn and fuel production rates to reach any destination thousands of miles away. Then, head west and race the sun. Overtake our star, then carefully manage your descent, and finally land at high speed on a runway which will be barely long enough to bring this heavy spaceship to a complete stop.
You can also choose to transport rare and precious cargo from one location to another thanks to the easy-to-use mission generator. With almost 3,000 registered airports and 100 cargo types, you will face infinite challenges and have many opportunities to witness the beauty of this virtual rendition of Earth.
Here is a list of its main features:
- Challenging but rewarding flight model: NOT AN ARCADE TOY!
- Highly detailed 3D modeling and optimized 4K texturing.
- Custom sound pack with emphasis on immersion: jet whine reacts to air flow, layers of wind, high-g structural "screams", cockpit ambient clicks and buzz, etc.
- Modern engine simulation and fuel system.
- Custom unique key elements: generate your fuel as you fly!
- Complex electrical system with working circuit breakers and nuclear reactor for infinite power.
- Unique performances: speed, altitude, range.
- Cargo mission generator on our custom EFB: the perfect excuse to discover the world!
- Uses the MSFS/Working Title native Garmin G3000 avionics and autopilot suite.
- Kinetic Aeronautical Responsive Assistant (K.A.R.A.): a charismatic onboard computer with more than 200 lines of dialogue.
- Included original soundtrack with 9 audio tracks to listen while you fly.
- Aircraft configuration and fueling via our custom EFB.
- Highly customizable interior lighting, with colors and dimmers.
- Interactive exterior static elements (chocks, covers, etc.)
- All custom visual effects (afterburners, heat blur, contrails, body vapor, dust and rain spray, etc.)
- 14 unique liveries.

Fun. It can be difficult to fly and will definitely get away from you at higher speeds and altitudes. Watch you're stall speeds indicator. It's not a Concorde. It's like a P-51 that can go way greater than stratospheric. The glass cockpit helps where steam gauges would fail for navigation. The 2+ hour video I saw on you. .tube (2:25:58 "Tuesday Lesson Quasar by Flying Fries")was what got me excited initially. I think it's worth the purchase price. I played with it for an afternoon before I did KEDW-RJBB at Mach 7+ stick handling the whole flight and it was a challenge. I'd wishlist an autopilot that can handle a cruise altitude of 130,000ft. and speeds of 4000km/hr. It's missing feature is "Nearest Airport" in the glass cockpit. It's blank. You have to type in the ICAO and then that (FMS GPS) will work for navigation laying out a magenta line on the screens. There's no VNAV or sort (*update* there is but it failed me. buggy?) but you can stick fly RNAV and ILS glideslopes and you'll get TOD inidications. APRoach mode works. You can control Vertical Speed descents so that helps but it's only good below 40-45k feet. Anywhere higher or faster than M2.0 and it's all up to you. The Autopilot panel is all white light with white font and can be difficult to see at certain times where ambient lighting isn't optimal. I wishlist green indication lights, white lettering for the buttons. As for future versions; it'd be a blast to see hover modes, VTOL (because it needs 390kts for liftoff and not a penny less), space flight mode when there's no atmosphere, a cockpit light above head so you can see the buttons and switches in the dark (I never tried CTRL+F for the head's flashlight option (VR mode is so way more fun)).. Last but not least, thanks for putting out a model that fills a void. It's great fun to try this craft and I didn't waste money and feel it's a totally affordable purchase. I prefer it over the Darkstar. I prefer 2024 over 2020 (mostly). Thanks. (everyone else, buy it. it's worth the money and it will hopefully bring a more refined craft)

Great model. A little hard to control with xbox controller. Had to find the manual but that wasn't hard. Once the kinks are out and updated model would then rate a 5. I am definately glad I purchased this model. Highly recommend.

A real beast! What seems like an arcade toy at first plance turns out to be a real challenge! That challenge is mastering multi-mach flight at altitudes above 50.000 ft (way above!). Once you reach Mach 2, don‘t consider this a plane anymore. Consider it a flying bullet! Better to be precisely on course before reaching top speed, because control becomes very, very difficult. At high speed, the AP does not help anymore. The only way to control the Quasar is with elevator trim and differential thrust (engines 1 and 4 are obviously most effective for this). Mastering a full flight and achieving a decent landing is a very fulfilling experience! Finally I have a plane that takes me quickly from continent to continent, for those days when I need a drastic change of scenery… Well done, Lord Frites!

fun ship , The approach is a bit difficult, and maintaining the chevron could use a parachute to slow you down, but it's a very fun ship. thx ^^

If you want a fun yet challenging addon then the Quasar is for you. While being fictional, I found the flight model of this craft quite rewarding, far from being arcade. Quite demanding at low speeds, fun at high speed. Great variety of liveries and full of details and functionality in the cockpit.

I hate to not follow the trend of rave reviews but, with the goal of honesty and guidance to those who have yet to purchase it, here goes... It's an amazing accomplishment- a hyper supersonic aircraft that takes MSFS to its limits of speed and altitude. Visually and design-wise, it is well worth the price. However, beware that due to MSFS limitations there are huge problems if their objective is to have a mode of transportation akin to any other aircraft in the sim. Planning a flight and executing it, from point A to point B, seems to have taken a backseat to the thrill-seeking abilities and pure fun of such an exotic aircraft. I can get it in the air and take it to great heights, but those same heights make the autopilot and nav systems we are used to quite useless. GPS tracking is extremely difficult at altitudes above 50, 000 ft and speeds above Mach 2. Once you get close to maximum with either, it's more or less a trajectory, not a flight. Don't expect to execute a flight with normal waypoint tracking or approach procedures or to make turns to get back on course. At those speeds, the turn radius is not practical. This is, for me, as great drawback. It’s not the developer's fault. ASOBO hasn't designed MSFS (FS2020 in my case) to handle these extremes. You can attempt to follow a plan or procedure once you get down to traditional altitudes and speeds (which takes a LOT of effort after reaching Mach 7 and 200,000 ft!) For me, it was too late. I was way off the flight plan path. The autopilot functions at the extreme speeds also produce intense shaking which, again for me, was hard to deal with. If and when the developer (if ASOBO limitations allow) comes up with a way to execute a flight plan and procedures that allow normal point A to point B travel at extreme altitude and speed, that would be a great and more complete aircraft- a Concorde on steroids, so to speak. For now (and I reserve judgement because it may just be my lack of skills this early on) it is a fun and exhilarating experience flying this Quasar, but not very practical for traditional flights utilizing standard navigation techniques and flight plans. That makes me give it a less than rave review.

A stunning machine! Not my type of flying at all but the idea of being able to “hop” across the world in a an hour or two is incredible. Combine that with realistic technologies and a flight model and level of systems depth that requires actual study and understanding of the science makes for a wonderful combination. Then of course it’s flying fries so we have the wonderful Easter Eggs, missions and even characters. Never change I love your designs!

Review updated after more time flying the Quasar. The visual quality is great, there's eastereggs a plenty and the animations are smooth. It comes with a lot of content and many details in the devs signature style. There is a good amount of FX throughout all flight phases, different pilot models and a sarcastic computer (you can mute). You can feel the love and care it was designed with, which give it a unique character. The sounds is fitting, the music that comes with it is nice. All in all the sounds could probably be a bit more outlandish. But that's personal taste, the objective quality is great. The cockpit is nice, the standard Garmin could probably use a custom replacement at some time if feasible. It feels too normal for such an outlandish craft. The systems coming with it (Autopilot) also cannot handle the plane if you exceed the "usual" flight conditions they were made for. It's understandable that redesigning this would be a considerable effort for a studio of this size, and also limited by the sim. As for the flight model: It's a monster. Limitless performance, afterburners that teach you a new meaning of fear and a unique fuel system forcing you to balance performance vs. production. A challenge to fly, but very rewarding as long as you adjust to the new set of rules this thing follows. Learning to handle this thing at the longest runway you can find is recommended. The mission system gives you a quick way to find a destination, a persistent score and funny cargo types. It's a nice gimmick and has a lot of potential for future expansion. Overall, I would recommend to buy it if you understand what the Quasar is: An ambitous experiment, way out there at the edge of the sims possibilities, made with love. It is still burdened a bit by the limitations of the sim, but the project and its makers deserve credit for trying to get as close to the limits as possible. Knowing the studios products usually improve considerably over time, I'm looking forward to seeing where this one goes.

’ve been flying around with various simulators for 30 years, using both freeware and payware aircraft. Time and again I’ve experimented with trying to reach the edge of space, just for fun… but it was always unsatisfying. With the Quasar, however, I’m experiencing a sense of fascination I’ve never felt before… I’m not writing this as advertising—thank you for this aircraft that is, in the truest sense of the word, dreamlike.

If you're new to MSFS and never got to experience the Darkstar in 2020, or just miss it in 2024, this plane is for you. I had no idea this was being released, but I had to purchase after watching the top tier launch trailer from CaptainKenobi. This thing is wild in 2024. It takes a couple flights to tame the flight dynamics completely, but once you do.... wow. The views. Unlike the Darkstar, you can see out of the front of the plane and it is glorious. LAX to MIA? Easy. Change your mind midflight and want to stop in Dallas? Garmin. Want to go to 10,000,000 ft? I mean, WHAT? Done. Want to watch the sun rise from the West? No problem. Circumnavigate the planet in one session? Achievement unlocked. Amazing work here by the Flying Fries team with lots of extra touches. I really enjoyed the FREE Scrapyard Monster, so I had to support this project. #supportgooddevs

"Fast, far, and fun"... What an ambitious program and what a wonderful promise! Believe it or not, this amazing add-on perfectly fulfills that promise. The Quasar allows you to cruise at barely imaginable speeds and crazy altitudes, taking in the far reaches of the Earth with a single glance. You can also tick impossible destinations on a flight plan and fly there immediately, even transporting cargo as part of an infinitely renewable mission program with increasingly improbable names. On paper, all this might seem a bit pointless, of course. Yet, as soon as you approach this massive machine on the tarmac, it commands respect. And when you settle into its vast, sumptuously designed and modeled cockpit, it's a bit like being at home. Everything falls within easy reach; it's admirably crafted. Then, you fire up the beast you've been meaning to tame, and you'll have to temper your newfound sense of power with a little humility. The Quasar is a marvel of ergonomics and power, crafted with such care that it's instantly captivating. But you'll still have to pilot it. And it's piloting, not arcade-style! Take off, gain altitude, fly, adjust your heading, trim, replenish energy, reach your destination by precisely « aiming », and then land… Quite a feat! Make no mistake, you'll get immense pleasure from every step, but it will come at the price of your sweat. The Quasar is rewarding because every effort will be rewarded far more than with other standard add-ons. The generosity is palpable behind every pixel, every animation, every visual effect, every sound, every livery, every mission, every Easter egg (yes, there are some, as always)... But the Quasar won't give you anything. You'll have to take what you want. You're the pilot, and you'll have to earn that title ! "Fast, far, and fun"... Yes, that's it. Exactly. And "free" too. Free to go wherever you please, smoothly cruising at 180 knots or Mach 7.8 at 150,000 meters... Free to take off at full power, free to land gently, making good use of all the incredible systems provided. Free to marvel at a sunset, listen to music, or break records. And above all, free to be yourself. A unique promise for a unique and timeless add-on. Don't miss out on the Quasar. You'll regret it.

I didn't really get on with the Dark Star in the sim (too complex to get up to speed, almost zero visibility, not very nice to handle), but liked the idea of being able to do those crazy altitudes and speeds. The Quasar solves everything! It's a superb creation, easily up to the standards Flying Fries has set for himself and his emerging team. It is of very high quality in every area and a LOT of fun to fly! It has some really cool features and tricks you need to learn to get the most out of it and the fun ideas, in a similar vein (but more serious) to the Scrapyard Monster, bring it to life. You may not think you need something like this in your life (and hangar) but it really does make you see the world in a different way, and shows how amazing the planet that Microsoft/Asobo have created for us to explore really is. Landing is a thrill, and the handling has proper feel of weight and friction to it. Under Mach 1 it actually turns quite fast and agile, but at higher speeds you can begin to measure your turning circle in "countries" :D It is definitely something I will be flying a lot and if I can persuade my mates to get it, I'm gonna plan some group flight events "with a difference" around it's capabilities! Good Job Lord Frites (and team :) ) !!

I am SPEED. To make a long story short: This quad-jet propelled speedster of a plane will get you from point A to point B really fast and in style. The chassis looks unique, the sounds are unique, and the flight model is unique. Landing requires a lot of practice, but once you master it, you feel like a Maverick in the skies (and in space). My only con is that the avionics suite is a conventional Garmin setup, for a plane that looks this futuristic, it's kind of out of place. P.S: This thing is HEAVY, it flies like a brick, but that's by design. It'll be important to learn your landing approaches.

Well, I’m not going to beat around the bush: this addon is a real breath of fresh air in Flight Simulator. I had quite literally lost some of my enthusiasm over the past few months. And then the Quasar arrived. The result: after already several dozen hours, I’m still not getting tired of it! The concept itself is already unique, and on top of that it’s extremely well executed and well thought-out. The physics feel realistic, and flying this machine is certainly not easy, contrary to what one might think. Deviating from your trajectory at a cruising speed of Mach 7.8 takes real anticipation! And not to mention the very demanding landings needed to stop the Quasar in short distances (that is to say, 5,000 ft), which makes every landing a challenge you have to learn to master! Add to that the native cargo missions, the mischievous onboard computer AI, and the overall quality, and you get a real treat. Thanks Flying Fries for this breath of fresh air—even if the air does get a bit scarce at 500,000 ft, lol.

This new creation from Flying Fries is simply incredible. I did not expect that at all. The attention to details and the quality of the modeling reach a very high end level. My greatest pleasure in VR is racing against the night and overtaking its shadow to watch the sun rise in the West. It is simply tremendous. Be aware that flying this aircraft is quite technical. This beast must be controlled with precision. It is essential to thoroughly understand its various complex systems as well as the different flight phases. But everything is remarkably explained and the fun is immediate. A kind of machine that must be mastered. Congratulations, Lord Frites, for taking us so far... Worth trying, without any hesitation! Plus, there are lots of hidden easter-eggs everywhere with funny surprises.

I've been in a flightsim rut for some time but I got asked to test fly this project. And what joy it is! You might look at it and think "some easy to fly arcade thing", but that's wrong. It is a...an airship(?)...that really test the limits of the sim and can be a real challenge to land etc. It's a fun thing to pull you out of a rut and makes you look at and experience the sim in new ways. Spinning at high mach speeds while watching the earth as a globe below you in VR is a sight to behold and maybe avoid (queasy Quasar pilot). Frites always adds a bunch of extra layers and easter eggs, but this is for sure a record number. Making all the extra stuff while still keeping the product future proof isn't an easy task, care has been taken to make it as stable as possible for any future sim updates. I haven't even gotten to every experience or easter egg myself after hours of flying. Luckily there is great documentation for the experience provided by the dev. It might not be the plane for militant purists, but rather for anyone who wants something new. Don't go into it expecting everything to be easy to do either. An experienced pilot might get things the first try, but I crashed and overran so many runways until I learned every trick in the book for it. A plane I didn't know I wanted or needed.

I recently purchased Le Quasar by Lord Frites, and I have to say I’m genuinely impressed. You can immediately feel that this is a product created with passion and care: the quality is excellent, the concept is original, and the attention to detail really makes it stand out. What struck me the most is the perfect balance between creativity and functionality. The Quasar is fun, well-designed, and very enjoyable to use. It clearly carries Lord Frites’ signature style — inventive, generous, and always pushing things further than expected. Honestly, I wasn’t expecting to be this convinced, but The Quasar exceeded my expectations. It’s a fantastic surprise, a unique item that truly stands apart from anything else out there. If you’re still hesitating, I can wholeheartedly recommend it: it’s a real favorite!

Very nice to work with you on this one, Thank you so much, Lord Frites! Awsome that yer letting me play with this thing directly from the drawing board! Turned out pretty darn fine, thanks to the finishing touches of Pseud as well. Team effort to bring something new to the sim! If yer wondering about the top speed: As of Mach 1.7 and above, you are no longer talking about "manouverability", as of that speed, you are talking about a "Trajectory" So, You can always hit the speedbrake and redirect your trajectory if yer aim was off ;) Have a good Flight, Captains!
